Fast Food Picks in a Pinch

As mothers we are all stretched a little to thin at times. Meeting the demands of keeping up a home, school, and all of the activities that go along with raising children is often difficult to do. We all find ourselves in the car when the little ones need to eat. Fast food is a tricky situation because most of the foods served are pure junk, but the fast food restaurants have cleaned up their act in the past few years. Most places offer a few “healthier” options. When I need to grab food fast I have a few go-to’s that help keep us all from getting grumpy!

Subway is always a good option. J.T. loves subway because he gets to pick out all of the toppings. I am always amazed by all the veggies he puts on his Sandwich. Some good choices here are a 4-inch turkey, roast beef, or roasted chicken cut into strips with no cheese, on wheat bread, a yogurt, and 100% apple juice.

At Burger King have the Mac and Cheese, apple “fries” with caramel dipping sauce, and chocolate milk. When there is a Wendy’s nearby choose the junior hamburger, mandarin oranges, and low-fat milk. If your children like chicken drumsticks you can get one grilled at KFC with corn on the cob, string cheese and water.

Keep in mind where there is a will there is a way. When healthy options are important, you can always find something healthier than a Happy Meal!

Have a healthy week!

XOXO

Gretchen
